I often heard the saying “Kutch nahi dekha, toh kuch nahi dekha” and wondered what’s so special about the place? Soon we heard about the Rann Utsav booking and decided to tick it off the list and I am really glad that we did.
Rann of Kutch Trip Plan is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful destinations with the best carnival festival that you would ever be able to witness in India.
When we say it the best, we want to tell you about the amazing cultural extravaganza, splendid views, serene locales, and what not! We planned a Kutch Trip Plan of 3 nights and 4 days for the Kutch Rann Utsav and it was more than fantastic, ever so fulfilling.
Rann Utsav is a melange of colors and fun
To reach the Rann Utsav, we had two options to travel: by rail or air. If you are going by train, it runs from Bhuj to the Rann Utsav Tent city, Dhordo. The distance is about 85 kms which generally takes 1 hour 45 minutes to reach the place. We chose to go by air. We took a flight from Delhi which takes about 2 hours to reach Kandla.
There we were picked up by a taxi that took another 2 hours to drop us at the Kutch Rann Utsav. As soon as we reached the venue, our eyes were stunned, quite literally!
The white tents set in the shape of a huge ring on the endless white sand with the essence of rich culture and warmth of the people welcoming us to the Kutch Rann Utsav.
It was that moment we felt like pausing the time for a while, and living the vibe of the Utsav. So, we decided to stay back and explore the tent. Our premium tent was superb with all the necessary amenities and the perfect view.
There was just one downside to it, they were not soundproof and so there was noise during the night hours. Having mentioned about the nights, they are truly spectacular. There are a lot of cultural activities going around, depicting the rich culture of Rann of Kutch. The blend of music, dance and nature was truly a treat to our eyes.
Since we ditched our Kutch Trip Plan day to enjoy the tent city, we missed out on Mandvi Beach which is one of the most visited beaches among the travelers for peace and solitude. The people at the utsav told us about the immense beauty of the beach. Mandvi is about 140 kms away from the tent city which had pure and beautiful white sand with surreal locales and the gorgeous sunset views.
Our second day as per Kutch Trip Plan was about the white desert tour and we were excited to finally deep dive into it. Before we went for the tour, we had lunch at the dining area which was arranged for us from 12.30 to 2.30.
Later there were in-house activities to cheer us up and get the ball rolling. I could see all the people around enjoying the activities that were arranged for us. Later in the day, it was time for evening tea and coffee.
We really enjoyed every sip of it! At 5.30, it was the time to witness the grandeur of sunset and so finally, we were taken to The White Rann by the bus and some camels too! We chose to go on camels to make our journey several notches higher! The moment we reached, we were still but the eyes moved in all directions it could.
The glistening white sheet of salt was our only view, as far as our eyes could see. It was the first time in our life that we saw such a wide and amusing panorama! We enjoyed every ounce of the time we spent there, truly!
After the sunset, we returned back to the tent city in Dhordo and reached the dining area for dinner. Our wonderful evening ended with the amazing carnival and cultural activities arranged there at the Rann Utsav.
Watching the sunrise at Rann of Kutch was one of its kind at our Kutch Trip Plan. The golden rays falling on the sparkling white sand, with birds chirping around making the morning rejuvenating, making us slip into the mood of meditation.
Later in the day, we went to Kala Dungar or Black Hills which is the highest point in Kutch Trip Plan. This point being the highest in Kutch, gave us an incredible panoramic view of Rann of Kutch. I closed my eyes, took a deep breath and felt so positive like never before!
On the way back to tent city, we visited a handicraft village called Gandhi nu gaam. It felt more like a movie set where everything was set just perfect. The artisans were in dazzling attires in vibrant colors, houses so neat, roads ready for some celebration. We had never seen a village so bright and beautifully painted.
We woke up basking in the warmth of the sun, but we knew it’s the last that we got. We had our breakfast, packed our bags, and stuffed all the memories we could. Bidding a goodbye was difficult to the place which gave us so much to enjoy and cherish. But we already planned to come back to Rann again!
The tents were available in three categories: AC, Non AC, and Premium wherein each tent had all the necessary amenities one could ask for. One special thing about the tent is that there is a porch in the front of the tent.
You can spend your time having a splendid view while enjoying your tea, or simply gazing at the wide expanse of white beautiful sand all over you. On a full moon night, the sand sparkles and makes the desert even more gorgeous to set eyes upon! So you can sit on the porch and take this amazing view!
Of course! A big yes! If you want to dive into the culture, feel the serenity and bask in the panorama, add it to your list. Rann Utsav 2022 dates were till February, but don’t you worry, this eagerly awaited festival generally lies between November to February, every year. So keep checking the dates and lastly “kuch din toh guzaro kutch mein”!
